Mount Kilimanjaro, 7 Days Lemosho Route

Today you will be picked up from your accommodation and drive to the Lemosho Gate. This route follows through the forest on a clear path with a moderate incline where you can also spot monkeys. The Lemosho Route is often considered the most beautiful of all trekking trails up Mount Kilimanjaro. It is one of the newer routes on the mountain and shares a portion of the same path as the Machame Route.

Today is a long day of hiking. The path is up and down until your ascent out of the rainforest section. Here, you should have clear views of the Shira Ridge and the Kibo Summit on a sunny day.

This day should help with acclimatization as you will walk high and sleep low. It is a long trek through the shrubs of the heath and moorland zone to reach the Lava Tower rocks.

The imposing Barranco Wall lies ahead today, but it is not as bad as it looks. It is a steep climb but the views of Kibo’s southern glacier are breathtaking. From there, the path wanders out onto the Shira Plateau, crossing it from west to east on relatively flat and easy-to-walk terrain.

It is a relatively easy day through a desolate moon landscape. You then start a more difficult hike to Karanga Camp which features numerous ascents and descents during the route. Our guides are experts at choosing an optimal pace for the group, so you don't need to worry. After reaching the camp you will be offered a warm lunch. After a couple of hours, you will have to complete an acclimatization hike in the direction of Barafu Camp with a 200m gain in altitude, and then descend back to the camp.

Summit day starts off in the dark. You will first go to Stella Point on the rim of the crater. It takes another few hours to reach Uhuru Peak in the early sunrise. You will feel the altitude after a few minutes at the summit. The descent is steep and long.

After breakfast, we continue the descent to the Mweka Gate to receive your summit certificates. Congratulations! Today's walk is pleasant and it will take you through the beautiful greenery of the rainforest as you steadily continue your descent.
At lower elevations, it can be wet and muddy - gaiters and trekking poles will help. From the gate, you continue another hour to Mweka Village. You can share your comments on the climb in the guestbook. We will drive back to Arusha and drop you off at your accommodation.
